Licence of pretrained_v2 for commercial use: the MIT wording from GitHub or the research-only wording here?
Hello,
thank you for RVC and for publishing the base models. I would like to use a voice model fine-tuned from pretrained_v2 (f0G40k.pth / f0D40k.pth) in a commercial product, and I would like to get the licence right rather than guess.
Two wordings of the same licence file exist, and I cannot tell which one you intend for the model files:
- Here on Hugging Face, the file 使用需遵守的协议-LICENSE.txt (uploaded 12 Jan 2023, unchanged since) says 本软件仅供研究使用 — research use only.
- On GitHub, the file with the same name (commit a7857f1, 31 Mar 2023) says 本软件及其相关代码以MIT协议开源 — released under the MIT licence — without the research-only sentence. That file was later removed and LICENSE is plain MIT.
The README also says of the base model: 底模使用接近50小时的开源高质量VCTK训练集训练,无版权方面的顾虑,请大家放心使用.
Could you confirm which terms apply to pretrained_v2 (and to hubert_base.pt and rmvpe.pt in this repository)? In particular:
- Is commercial use of pretrained_v2, and of voice models fine-tuned from it, permitted under the MIT licence?
- Was the research-only sentence meant to cover only the early software package, or also the model files uploaded later?
A short answer here is enough. Thank you very much.
简短中文:我们想在商业产品中使用基于 pretrained_v2 微调的音色模型。Hugging Face 上的协议文件写着"仅供研究使用",而 GitHub 上同名文件(a7857f1)写的是"以MIT协议开源"。请问 pretrained_v2(以及 hubert_base.pt、rmvpe.pt)适用哪一版?基于它微调的模型能否商用?谢谢!
Seconding this question, @lj1995 . I'm experimenting with a vocal-to-synth tool that might eventually become a commercial product, and I'd also like to understand whether the MIT or research-only terms apply to the pretrained weights.
My case involves the 48 kHz versions (f0G48k.pth / f0D48k.pth) and rmvpe.pt, obtained through Applio. Their team referred me upstream for clarification.
Would the applicable terms allow fine-tuning and ONNX conversion, then distributing the resulting weights in a paid, closed-source plugin with the required attribution?
Thanks for any clarification, and thanks to the original poster for raising this.
